Rice:
The
word “Rice” has been derived from the Indian word “Arisi” , Its scientific name
is oryza saltiva.L . It is presumed that Rice has been first planted in south
east Asia , mainly in Indo - China and Indonesia . In Iran cultivation of rice
goes back to about 2000 years ago .
Rice is
a staple food of almost half of the world’s population , especially the people
of Asia and developing countries . Rice plays a special role in Iranian food
regimen in a way that we can say rice , after wheat , is the staple food of
Iranians . The food basket of every Iranian household contains various items ,
some of which provide a high degree of food value , especially energy ; thus ,
the government of Islamic republic of Iran exerts a vigorous control over them
, which are bread , rice , vegetable oil , meat ,
dairies
, etc . Approximately 71 pct of rice is cultivated in caspian sea stripe . The
main varieties of rice which are planted in Iran are good quality long grain ,
high yield long grain , good quality medium grain , good quality short grain ,
high yield short grain .
