Major producers of rice paddy in the last decade were China , Indonesia , Vietnam and Thailand . World average production of rice paddy in the last decade was about 551 million tons per year and average production of rice paddy in Iran in the same period was about 2.4 million tons per year which is about 0.43 pct of the world rice paddy production .

In the last decade exports of rice in the world , developed contries and developing countries have inceased by 100 pct , 2.8 pct and 145 pct respectively . major exporters of rice in the same period were Thailand , America , Vietnam , India and Pakistan .

In the last decade , the rice imports of the world , developed countrie , developing countries and Iran have increased by 113% , 72% , 140% and 93% respectively . In the said period world rice trade has doubled . The major importers of rice in the last decade were Indonesia , Brazil , Iran and Philippines . It is forcasted that for the year 2001 world rice import will increase by 2.6 pct in comparison with the last year and will reach 2.3 million tons . Also it is forcasted that Indonesia , Iran , Philippines and Brazil will remain the major importers of rice .
